Review & How To Guide
Netflix once again has stepped up to the plate to deliver another exciting documentary titled “Have a good trip: Adventures in Psychedelics” that explores the world of magic mushrooms and LSD. Created in a storytelling narration, celebrities such as Sarah Silverman, Adam Scott, ASAP Rocky, Nick Offerman, Sting, and Nick Kroll, talk about their experiences with psychedelics and how it changed their world. With the state of the world dealing with COVID-19, it’s a perfect time to release a documentary about magic mushrooms and LSD as these can be natural medicine alternatives that can help you with anxiety, depression, brain fog, and lack of motivation. Quoting String from the documentary: “I don’t think psychedelics are the answer to the world problems, however it could be a start” is a great line to allow people to think outside of the box and look to magic mushrooms and LSD as alternatives to open their minds to an entirely new way of thinking and processing the world around us.
Directed by Donick Cary, the documentary explores the history and culture of psychedelic drugs and how they inspired so much creative thinking found in pop culture today. It’s also been used to treat depression in many of the celebrities and musicians that we’ve come to love over the years. One of our favorite lines from celebrities discussing their experiences with psychedelics comes from A$AP Rocky: “No lie, a rainbow shot out of my dick,”. Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics was meant to premiere at SXSW this year before the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
What are Psychedelics?
Psychedelics are a hallucinogenic class of psychoactive drug whose primary action is to trigger psychedelic experiences via serotonin receptor agonism, causing specific psychological, visual and auditory changes, and altered state of consciousness. One of the major psychedelic drugs is psilocybin, which is found in psilocybin “magic” mushrooms. The psychedelic experience (Adventures in Psychedelics) is often compared to non-ordinary forms of consciousness such as trance, meditation, yoga, religious ecstasy, dreaming and even near-death experiences.
What are Hallucinogens?
A hallucinogen is a psychoactive agent that often or ordinarily causes hallucinations, perpetual anomalies and other substantial subjective changes in thought, emotion and consciousness that are typically experienced to such degrees with other categories of drugs. The common classifications for hallucinogens are psychedelics, dissociatives and deliriants. Psilocybin magic mushrooms are a prime example of a hallucinogen.
What are Psychoactive Agents?
A psychoactive agent or psychoactive drug is a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition or behaviour. These substances may be used medically, recreationally, to purposefully improve performance or alter one’s consciousness; as entheogens for ritual, spiritual or shamanic purposes, and for research. This is a very broad class of agents and includes many, many compounds, including things like caffeine and psilocybin magic mushrooms, for example.
How Can Magic Mushrooms Benefit You?
Currently, studies into the vast and multifaceted use of psychoactive magic mushrooms are being conducted across the world. One study, published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, found that, “a single dose of psilocybin produced substantial and enduring decreases in depressed mood and anxiety along with increases in quality of life.” The results are promising and compelling, and paint a substantiated, positive, symbiotic picture of mushrooms as a powerful healer. There is a growing body of research which suggests that part of why psilocybin magic mushrooms are so effective is that they impact neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to learn and grow and change.
Researchers are beginning to theorize that many of psilocybin magic mushrooms beneficial effects on mental health conditions may be due to its ability to “reset” a control system in the brain. The Default Mode Network (DMN) has been linked to depression and other mood disorders when overactive. Psilocybin magic mushrooms have been shown to dramatically reduce the activity of the DMN, which has recently been linked to its anti-depressant effects. In early trials where psychedelics were given to healthy adults under supportive conditions, many participants reported lasting beneficial changes in their personality, their behavior, and their values and attitudes.
Research shows that Psilocybin Magic Mushrooms can have positive effects on:
- Personal growth and development
- Complex problem solving and thinking
- Cluster headaches
- Mood and anxiety disorders
- Addiction of all forms (cigarettes, alcohol, sex, illicit drugs like cocaine)
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Communication and interpersonal relationships
Taking Magic Mushrooms for the First Time
Even a small dose of magic mushrooms can have a significant effect on your brain. Many users report feeling more energetic, euphoric, creative, open-minded and focused. In higher doses, the effects can be more significant and intense. You can experience auditory and visual hallucinations along with enhanced senses and a warped sense of space and time. Many users even report having spiritual experiences after consuming psilocybin mushrooms.
Before you take magic mushrooms, it’s important to know how much to take and what to expect. Different dosages can produce different kinds of effects. Some users prefer to take low doses for mild effects whereas others prefer to have a full psychoactive trip. Whichever way, you can have a highly positive experience with magic mushrooms as long as you take them sensibly. Adventures in Psychedelics can open your world to new beginnings if used responsibly.
Dosing Guide for Beginners
Taking the right magic mushroom dosage is essential. You don’t want to take too much and trip too hard, especially if you’re not used to the effects. You’ll also want to avoid negative side effects. Fortunately, it’s easy to control your dosage and ensure that you take a manageable amount of magic mushrooms.
Most users start with around 1 gram to 2 grams of magic mushrooms. This is enough to experience the incredible effects of psilocybin without being too overwhelming. Raising the dose to 3.5 grams will give you a classic psychoactive trip, inducing strong hallucinations and a unique view of reality. You might want to start low before you try taking more.
Taking over 3.5 grams is best reserved for users with plenty of experience. The psychoactive effects can be extremely strong at this point and even some experienced users may find them overwhelming.
On the other end of the spectrum, you can also try microdosing. This involves taking a low dose of magic mushrooms- usually less than 1 gram. This can enhance your mind and give you many of the mental benefits of magic mushrooms while still being subtle and manageable.
It’s best to avoid taking too much. You may experience a bad trip, which can involve frightening hallucinations and anxiety. It can also cause increased heart rate, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and other physical effects. However, as long as you know how much to take and use them safely, you should have a positive time. It’s always best to start slow and low when it comes to dosage! It’s best to avoid taking too much when you’re just delving into psychedelics. You may experience an intense trip, which can be somewhat frightening. So again, start with lower dosages and slowly work your way up to higher dosages overtime as you become more comfortable.
Stay safe and have a great trip! Adventures in Psychedelics could be what you are looking for!!
